🎃 Thursday on Hillel Place

💃 Flatbush Celebrates Its Own Way

On Thursday, October 22, from 2 PM to 6 PM, the Flatbush Nostrand Junction Business Improvement District and J. Ember Design turn Hillel Plaza, where Hillel Place meets Flatbush Avenue, into Brooklyn's signature stop on the city's Trick-or-Streets calendar. Local schools, shops and cultural groups shape the program, and the afternoon centers on neighborhood culture as much as costumes. The street event is free and open to all ages, with no sign-up needed.

🥁 Dances, Drums and Halloween Crafts

The organizers list cultural dances, drums, live music and performances, Halloween crafts, costume contests, candy and spooky giveaways, plus trick or treating at local businesses. Separate from the street event, the Municipal Art Society runs Little Monsters, Big City: A Flatbush Creature Hunt from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, a family scavenger hunt for the pigeons, squirrels and insects that share these streets, and it needs its own free registration. The meeting point comes with the confirmation, and open spots are listed on the MAS page.

🚇 A Weekday Afternoon at the Junction

This is a Thursday afternoon event that fits nearby families, Brooklyn College students and anyone with a flexible schedule, rather than an after-work night out. Take the 2 or 5 train to Flatbush Avenue and Brooklyn College, the last stop on both lines, or the B41 and B44 buses to the junction. The city notes that events can be delayed or canceled. Check the forecast and the DOT event page before heading out, and bring a layer for late October outdoors. Top photo: a past community dance event on Hillel Plaza, via Open Plans.
