A Berliner Grades Philadelphia's Christmas Village Preview
The free preview weekend at LOVE Park runs Sat Nov 21 to Sun Nov 22, with wooden huts, holiday stalls and treats.
🎄 Saturday and Sunday in LOVE Park

📋 The Berlin Grading Sheet
Back in Berlin I treat Christmas markets the way I treat a code review, with a checklist. Christmas Village in Philadelphia calls itself a German Christmas market, with wooden huts, holiday shopping and treats in LOVE Park at 1500 JFK Blvd. The preview weekend is the official early access to the 2026 season, and one box is already ticked. Entry is free on both days, which earns access eine glatte Eins, the German straight A, before I even arrive.
🔍 What I Check On Site
On Saturday from noon I walk the rows of huts like a stack trace, top to bottom. I grade whether the stalls feel handmade or souvenir shop, whether the air smells of cinnamon, and whether real Budenzauber shows up or just string lights. Food, drink, shopping and rides are paid for separately on site, and I set a small budget before the first stall. The scores for atmosphere and huts get filled in on the spot, anything earlier would be guesswork.
🚇 Getting There and Timing
LOVE Park sits in Center City right beside City Hall, and the walkways across the grounds are paved throughout, which helps with strollers and wheelchairs. The preview weekend is listed until Sunday at 8 PM. My Berlin rule says arrive early on Saturday. Markets back home get crowded by afternoon and I expect the same Gaudi here. Afterwards I head to U-Bahn on Chestnut Street, a German-style beer hall that opens at 4 PM, for a quiet Feierabend beer.
