Craft Brewery Near Me in Oshiage: Bathe Yotsume, the Bathhouse-Built Brewpub
Bathe Yotsume Brewery, at 4-11-3 Narihira in Sumida-ku, is a glass-walled microbrewery and beer bar opened in December 2023 by the family that runs three sento on Yotsume-dori. It pours its own Forest, Sunrise, Shower and Squall from Thursday to Sunday, two minutes from Oshiage Station.
Bathe Yotsume Brewery is a craft brewery built by a bathhouse family, and it pours beer only four days a week: Thursday and Friday from 6pm to 10:30pm, and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 3pm to 10:30pm. It sits at 4-11-3 Narihira, Sumida-ku, Tokyo 130-0002, two minutes on foot from Exit B1 of Oshiage Station. If you typed craft brewery near me while standing under Tokyo Skytree, this is the brewhouse closest to the tower, and its three-bottle gift set sells for ¥2,450 in the brewery's own online shop.

Exit B1, Then One Street Behind Yotsume-dori
The brewery's own directions are short: take the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line to Oshiage, leave by Exit B1, and walk about two minutes. Yotsume-dori runs south from the Skytree side of Oshiage toward Kinshicho, and Bathe faces the street one block in from it, a row of older shops and small restaurants that predate the tower. The glass frontage is the giveaway, a plain wood-and-glass box among the older shopfronts of Narihira 4-chome.
Sakurayu, the nearest of the owners' three bathhouses, is about 20 seconds away on foot, which is the whole point of the location. The Japanese address is written 業平4丁目11-3, so look for Narihira 4-chome on lamppost plates. The brewery's English page renders the district as Narihirabashi, but the official Japanese address uses Narihira, the name to give a taxi driver or type into a map app.
Three Sento, a Pandemic and a Bathhouse Employee Turned Brewer
Takuya and Tomoko Shinbo run Daikokuyu, Koganeyu and Sakurayu, all within a ten-minute walk of each other along Yotsume-dori, and describe themselves as the third generation of a bathing business now 75 years old. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Koganeyu, a sento dating from 1932, was about to close with no successor. Takuya offered to take it over, rebuilt it, and put a beer counter and DJ booth beside the bandai.
Koganeyu's first house beer, Koganeyu Pale Ale, was contract-brewed by Koganei Shuzo in Atsugi. When regulars started staying for a glass after their soak, and beer fans began showing up just to bathe, the Shinbos decided to brew in-house. They found the Narihira site, used a pandemic business-restructuring subsidy and a Makuake crowdfunding campaign, and opened Bathe on December 16, 2023. The name means to bathe, in water and in beer.
Head brewer Kenta Tanaka was not hired as a brewer. He joined the company in 2021 because he loved baths, scrubbed floors and sat at the bandai, and two years later the owners asked him to run the brewhouse. He learned the craft at a brewery in nearby Asakusabashi. His brief, as he told BE-PAL in 2026, is beer for after a bath: never too heavy, never too strong, and priced so a bathhouse customer can afford it.
Forest at 3.7 Percent, and Why That Number
Four beers make up the core range on the brewery's own beer page. Forest is a Weizen at 3.7% ABV and 9.3 IBU, the figure chosen because 3-7 can be read as sauna in Japanese. During brewing, Tanaka adds vihta, the bundled birch branches used in Finnish saunas, which gives a woody, forest-bathing note over the banana-like wheat sweetness. Forest won a bronze at the Japan Great Beer Awards 2026.
Sunrise is a golden pale ale at 5% and 20 IBU, with soft citrus hops and a restrained malt sweetness. Shower is a West Coast IPA at 7% and 45 IBU, loaded with citrus hops and dry enough that the strength hides. Squall, the newest of the four, is a hazy IPA at 6% and only 10 IBU, the first Bathe beer dry-hopped with New Zealand Nelson Sauvin for a white-wine and tropical-fruit aroma, softened with a little wheat.
The bronze also went to Five, a beer the brewery pours at the Narihira bar. That 2026 judging drew 819 beers from 230 producers and 103 judges, a strong result for a brewery that opened in December 2023. Limited sento-themed batches rotate alongside the core four, including a Coffee Milk Stout and a Fruit Ole Ale, both named after the bottled drinks Japanese bathers have reached for after a soak for decades.
Ten Taps, Lab Glassware and a Vinyl DJ Booth
Inside, the 600-litre tanks sit behind a glazed partition, and three two-seat tables face them directly, so you drink looking at the brewhouse. Further back are three four-seat tables and one semi-private nook that fits about six. Ten taps run beside the brewing kit, pouring the house beers plus four or five guest beers from other breweries, and the draft line-up changes from visit to visit.
The bar counter borrows the look of a sento, and the interior was designed by Yosuke Hayashi of Fourteen Stones Design, who also did Koffee Mameya in Omotesando. The project won a gold at the Japan Spatial Design Awards and an iF Design Award. Beer arrives in chemistry-set style glasses sourced from a maker in India, and for groups there is a one-litre flask meant for sharing around the table.
At the back, a DJ booth spins vinyl under a framed photograph of Koganeyu. Staff member Kanae Morohashi says some guests arrive without knowing the brewery belongs to a bathhouse company, see the photo, and walk on to a sento afterward. Families come in after their bath, and plenty of drinkers stop for a single glass and leave. Non-alcoholic drinks are on the list, so families with children and non-drinkers are part of the crowd.
Bar Snacks, Not Dinner, and the Days to Avoid
Do not come Monday to Wednesday: the bar is closed, and the tanks will be the only thing you see through the glass. On Thursday and Friday the doors do not open until 6pm, so a weekday afternoon after the Skytree observation deck is the wrong plan. Weekends and public holidays from 3pm suit day-trippers best, and the evening hours before the 10:30pm close fit neatly after a soak at Sakurayu next door.
Skip it as a dinner stop. The kitchen does beer snacks, not meals: jerky, nuts, fries, a roast beef with a house sauce, and salami from Kuwabara Ham, a ham maker based in Sumida. Eat properly elsewhere first, or come for one or two glasses after a bath. Japan's legal drinking age is 20. Visitors who like a beer to take home can order the bottled range through Bathe's online shop.
Daikokuyu, Koganeyu and a Plan B for Closed Days
The intended routine is soak first, drink second. Daikokuyu, on Yotsume-dori in Yokokawa, was the first sento in the 23 wards to stay open overnight until 10am, in a building about 70 years old with an open-air bath that looks up at Skytree. It opens at 3pm on weekdays, 2pm on Saturdays and 1pm on Sundays and holidays, closes Tuesdays, and charges adults ¥600 since August 1, 2026.
From October 17 to November 9, 2026, Daikokuyu runs a Re:Zero anime collaboration with themed medicinal baths, and Koganeyu's second-floor Kogane Kitchen serves tie-in drinks. Koganeyu itself, in Taihei near Olinas Kinshicho, opens 6am to 9am and again 11am to 12:30am, closing only on the second and fourth Mondays, and its beer counter beside the bandai pours Bathe's draft. That makes it the Plan B on Monday to Wednesday, or whenever every Bathe table is taken.
Sakurayu, the closest bathhouse, has seven different baths and is the quickest pairing with a pint. Bottles of three Bathe beers are also sold at Daikokuyu, Sakurayu and Kanazawa Yokujo in Shinjuku. In December 2025 Bathe and Koganeyu were certified under Sumida Modern, the ward's brand programme for local makers, and in January 2026 the Shinbos renamed their company Shinbo Yokujo, which now employs around 80 people across the bathhouses and the brewery.
