Craft Beer Taproom Near Me in Kanda: Hitachino Brewing Lab at Manseibashi
Hitachino Brewing Lab pours ten fresh Hitachino Nest drafts inside the brick arches of the old Manseibashi railway viaduct at mAAch ecute in Kanda, two minutes from Kanda Station's Ginza Line exit 6, open daily from 11 am.
Hitachino Brewing Lab sits in arch N1 of mAAch ecute Kanda Manseibashi, at 1-25-4 Kanda Sudacho, Chiyoda-ku, inside the red-brick railway viaduct that once carried Manseibashi Station. It is the Tokyo bar of Kiuchi Brewery, the Ibaraki sake maker behind Hitachino Nest beer, and it pours ten fresh draft beers a few steps from the Kanda River. For anyone typing craft beer taproom near me between Akihabara and Ochanomizu, this is the brewery-run counter to know: open every day from 11 am, two minutes on foot from exit 6 of Kanda Station on the Ginza Line.

A Brewery That Started With Sake in 1823
Kiuchi Brewery traces itself to 1823, when Gihei Kiuchi, a village headman in what is now Naka in Ibaraki Prefecture, began turning surplus tax rice into sake. The brewery's own history says its first year used about 20 koku of polished rice, roughly 4,000 litres of sake, and that its Kikusakari label was named by the Mito scholar Fujita Toko after the chrysanthemums in the family garden.
Beer came much later. After Japan's liquor tax law was relaxed in 1994, the company started brewing Hitachino Nest beer in 1996 with four staff, importing equipment directly and working from English manuals. A year later, in 1997, its Amber Ale took a gold medal at an international beer competition, and exports began between 1999 and 2000. Today the Nukada brewery, opened in 2007, makes more than 15 Hitachino Nest beers and sends about half of its roughly 3,000 kilolitres a year overseas.
Drinking Inside a Station That Closed in 1943
The building matters as much as the beer. JR East's history of the site explains that the brick Manseibashi viaduct was completed in 1912, when the station opened as a transfer point for Tokyo's streetcars and the Sudacho area grew into a busy shopping district. The first station building burned in the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, a smaller one replaced it in 1925, and from 1936 the site shared space with the railway museum, later renamed the Transportation Museum.
The station itself was suspended in 1943 during the war, and the museum moved to Saitama in 2006. The arches have since reopened as mAAch ecute, with the original 1912 staircase, the 1935 staircase and a glass-walled deck on the old platform open to the public. Climb up before or after a pint: Chuo Line trains run past on both sides of the deck.
Ten Taps of Hitachino Nest
JR East's shop listing describes the Lab as a craft beer bar with ten fresh draft beers and snacks chosen to go with them, built around the idea of thinking about, learning about and enjoying beer. Expect the brewery's core range on tap, which in bottles includes White Ale, Amber Ale, Pale Ale, Weizen, Daidai Ale, Saison du Japon, Red Rice Ale, Anbai Ale and Japanese Classic Ale.
Start with White Ale if you are new to the brand, then move to something tied to Kiuchi's own farming and sake background. Nipponia is the story beer: the company revived Kaneko Golden, a Japanese malting barley that stopped being grown in the 1950s, with local farmers, and used it with Japanese-origin hops to make this Japanese ale. Red Rice Ale and Anbai Ale, brewed with salt and ume, show the sake side of the business.
Bottle Prices From the Brewery Shop
The brewery's own online shop gives a fair sense of what the beers cost away from the bar. A 330 ml bottle of White Ale, Amber Ale, Pale Ale, Weizen, Daidai Ale or Saison du Japon costs ¥484, Japanese Classic Ale is ¥528 and Red Rice Ale is ¥539. Those are retail bottle prices for drinking at home, not the draft prices at the counter.
Seasonal releases change through the year. In September 2026 the brewery announced Fresh Hops 2026, a limited Hitachino Nest beer made with 100 percent Japanese fresh hops, and the shop has since listed a new Daisy Lager and a limited grapefruit lager. Ask the staff which of these are on tap, since the ten lines rotate with the season.
Hours, Bookings and Building Closure Days
The Lab opens Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm, with last food orders at 9 pm and last drinks at 9.30 pm. On Sundays and holidays it closes at 9 pm, with food last orders at 8 pm. The phone number is 03-3254-3434, and tables can be booked online through the brewery's Toreta page; same-day bookings are taken by phone only.
The whole mAAch ecute complex shuts on set closure days. For the rest of 2026 they are Monday 9 November and Thursday 31 December, followed by 1 to 3 January 2027. The booking page also warns that a table may be released to waiting guests if a reservation is more than 15 minutes late without a call, so give the shop a ring if a train is delayed.
A Walk From the River Arches to Akihabara
mAAch ecute is easy to reach from several lines: two minutes from Kanda Station's Ginza Line exit 6, three minutes from Awajicho, Ogawamachi and Shin-Ochanomizu, four minutes from the Electric Town exit of JR Akihabara and six minutes from the Hijiri-bashi exit of JR Ochanomizu. Walking along the arches toward Ochanomizu, the river and the brick are the attraction.
Fans of the brewery can make a second stop at Kiuchi Brewery Tokyo inside SEEKBASE at 13-1 Kanda Neribeicho, by the Akihabara tracks. It is a shop and tasting counter rather than a full bar, selling Kiuchi sake, Hitachino Nest beer, Kiuchi umeshu and Hinomaru whisky by the glass, along with ham and sausages from the company's own Hitachino Ham Kobo. It opens from 11 am to 8 pm, and its phone number is 03-6206-4477.
