The standing complaint about football in Los Angeles is that two teams share one Sunday. When the Rams and the Chargers both play in the afternoon window, every bar with a main screen has to pick a side, and half the room ends up watching a game it does not care about on a television in the corner. Week 1 of the 2026 season does not have that problem, and it is worth understanding why before you plan anything.

The two teams are four days apart
The Rams open the season on Thursday, September 10 against San Francisco at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, kicking off at 5:35 in the afternoon Pacific time on Netflix. It is the first regular-season NFL game played in Australia. The Chargers open at home on Sunday, September 13 against Arizona in the late window, 1:25 Pacific.
So the Rams get a weekday evening entirely to themselves, and the Chargers get the Sunday afternoon slot with no local competition. For one week, a city that normally splits its attention gets to give each team an undivided room. If you follow both, you can watch both properly. If you follow one, the other team's fans are not in your way.
Where the loyalties actually sit
The bar map in Los Angeles does not divide the way an outsider would guess. It is not really geographic in the sense of the Rams owning the west side and the Chargers owning the south. It is closer to generational and migratory. Rams support in the city is a mix of long-memory fans who remember the team before it left for St. Louis and a newer post-return crowd concentrated around Inglewood and the areas that have grown up around the stadium.
Chargers support is more scattered and more transplanted, with a strong residual San Diego core that drives up or watches from the South Bay and Orange County edges. The practical effect is that Chargers rooms in Los Angeles tend to be smaller, more specific, and more likely to be a bar that a group deliberately adopted than a bar that was always the team's home. They are excellent rooms. You just have to know where they are, because they are not on the main commercial strips.
The third and largest category is the bar with no allegiance that will show whichever game the room asks for. On a normal double-header Sunday that is a compromise. In Week 1, with the two games on different days, a neutral bar is a perfectly good answer for both.
Planning the Thursday and planning the Sunday
The Thursday game is the easier of the two logistically and the harder one socially. Easy because at half past five on a weekday every bar in the city is open. Hard because it is a commute-hour kickoff, which means the good rooms fill between four-thirty and five with people who came straight from work. Book if you want to sit.
The Sunday game is the reverse. A 1:25 kickoff is the most comfortable slot in football — late enough to sleep in, early enough that the evening is still yours. But it shares the window with three other games, so a Chargers-neutral bar may put Packers at Vikings on the main screen instead. If the Chargers are the point of the afternoon, go to a Chargers room rather than a good sports bar.
There is one more variable that matters in a city this spread out, which is that nobody is walking to any of this. A Rams room in Inglewood and a Chargers room in the South Bay are forty minutes apart on a good evening and considerably worse on a Thursday at five. The version of this that goes wrong is choosing a bar for its allegiance and then discovering the drive home is the longest part of the night. For a weekday kickoff, proximity should probably outrank loyalty; for the Sunday game, when you have the whole afternoon, it is worth travelling for the right room.
The rest of the opening weekend
The early Sunday window starts at ten in the morning Pacific and is all out-of-market football, which in a transplant-heavy city is actually a busy time — this is when the Bears and Steelers and Bills rooms in Los Angeles come alive. Sunday night is Cowboys at Giants at 5:20 Pacific, and Monday night is Broncos at Chiefs at 5:15. Between Thursday and Monday there are five distinct evenings of football, and for once none of them asks a Los Angeles fan to choose.
