KYU is a wood-fired Asian restaurant in Wynwood with an open kitchen, a high-energy dining room and a dinner reservation situation that behaves like most well-reviewed Miami restaurants: possible, but not spontaneous. What gets left out of almost every write-up is that the same kitchen, the same wood, the same Korean fried chicken and the same cinnamon roll are available in the middle of the day, three weekdays a week plus both weekend days, in a room that is considerably calmer and considerably easier to get into. The dinner service is the one that gets photographed. The daytime service is the one worth knowing about.

The full timetable, which nobody publishes clearly
Lunch runs Wednesday to Friday, noon to 4pm. Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4pm. Dinner is Monday and Tuesday 5pm to 10pm, Wednesday and Sunday 4pm to 10pm, and Thursday to Saturday 4pm to 11pm.
Read that carefully and the shape of the week appears: Monday and Tuesday are dinner-only, the middle of the week adds a weekday lunch, and the weekend front half is brunch rather than lunch. There is no daytime service at all on Monday or Tuesday.
The 4pm handover matters if you are trying to book the edges. A 3:30pm table on a Thursday is lunch; a 4:15pm table on the same day is dinner, with the dinner menu and the dinner room.
Why lunch is the underbooked service
Wynwood's daytime crowd is a gallery-and-mural crowd rather than a restaurant crowd, and the neighbourhood's dining reputation is built almost entirely on the evening. That leaves a genuinely good wood-fired kitchen running at noon on a Wednesday with far less pressure on it than it has at nine at night.
The practical benefit beyond availability: the room is quiet enough to hear the table. KYU's dining room is designed to be loud and it succeeds at that from early evening onwards. At lunch, the same space reads as a bright industrial room with an open grill in it.
It also fits the way people actually use Wynwood. Walls and galleries in the morning, lunch here, and the rest of the afternoon on foot in the same few blocks — none of which works with an 8pm reservation.
Brunch is a different menu, not lunch on a weekend
Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4pm, is brunch service rather than the weekday lunch, and it is the most competitive of the daytime slots — it is the one Miami books.
The cinnamon roll is the dish that has followed this restaurant everywhere, and the weekend is where it makes most sense. It is a dessert-scaled thing that people share, and it belongs at the end of a long midday meal rather than after dinner.
If you want the calm version of the daytime room, take the weekday lunch. If you want the occasion version, take the weekend brunch and book it earlier than you think you need to.
What to order from the wood
The Korean fried chicken is the signature and the thing to order first. It is the dish the restaurant is known for across every city it has opened in, and it is the clearest expression of what the kitchen does.
Everything here runs through wood smoke and wood fire, which is the actual concept rather than a garnish on it. Order across the grill rather than ordering one large thing each — the menu is built to be shared and the portions assume it.
The cocktail programme is a real part of the offer, and it is one of the reasons the evening service is as loud as it is. At lunch, ordering one is a pleasant indulgence rather than the point of the visit.
Where it sits
KYU is at 251 NW 25th Street, in the middle of Wynwood, within walking distance of the mural blocks and the main gallery strip. It has since expanded to New York and Las Vegas, with Los Angeles opening in summer 2026 — but this is the original room.
Parking in Wynwood is difficult in the evening and straightforward at lunchtime, which is another small argument for the daytime service. The surface lots that charge event pricing on a Saturday night are ordinary lots at noon on a Wednesday.
Miami Spice participation makes late summer a cheaper window here, and it is worth checking whether the dates cover your visit before booking at full price.
