Il Pastaiolo Fresh Pasta Shop, South Beach: Ravioli Past 11
Il Pastaiolo at 1130 Collins Ave, South Beach, serves handmade pasta from 12 pm daily and to 12:30 am Friday and Saturday. Get the lobster ravioli in fondue.
Il Pastaiolo, at 1130 Collins Avenue in South Beach, is a sit-down Neapolitan trattoria rather than a pasta counter, and that matters if you came looking for a fresh pasta shop. You will not leave with a bag of raw tagliatelle. You will sit down to pasta made by hand in the kitchen, tossed in a Parmigiano wheel or folded around lobster, and served late into the night on a stretch of Collins Avenue a block from Ocean Drive. The restaurant's own line is short and confident: the best homemade and handmade pasta in town.

A Neapolitan Kitchen on Collins Avenue
The restaurant calls itself a Trattoria Gourmet, and its OpenTable description spells out the idea: an Italian restaurant in Miami Beach with a Neapolitan trattoria style, where the pasta is homemade and handmade. One of the owners, Mirko Cipriano, came to Miami from Naples in 1999, according to a 2022 review by The Savory Traveler, and the menu reads like a Naples family table translated for South Beach, with ragù, cacio e pepe, Nerano-style zucchini pasta and seafood linguine. A December 2025 profile on Miami Beach Drive described the place as built around handmade pasta rolled in house.
The dining room is small and lively, and Il Pastaiolo has collected a Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Award for 2024, which it mentions on its reservations page. That recognition explains the mix in the room on a weekend: hotel guests from the Collins Avenue strip next to locals who come for one specific plate. The restaurant keeps a business casual dress code on its OpenTable listing, so beachwear straight off the sand is a poor fit for dinner.
What to Order, With Prices
Start with the filled pasta, because that is where the handwork shows. The Ravioli Lobster, $36 on the official menu, is homemade ravioli filled with lobster meat and ricotta, finished with tomato sauce and cheese fondue. The Ravioli Ossobuco, $29, fills the same dough with braised ossobuco and a demi-glace. Order one of each for two people and split them. The contrast between the sweet lobster and the deep, meaty ossobuco is the clearest way to judge the kitchen in one sitting.
For long pasta, the Pasta Ragù is $32: slow-cooked Angus beef in tomato sauce with fresh basil, again served with cheese fondue. The Pasta Carbonara is $29, made the Roman way with roasted guanciale, Pecorino Romano, black pepper and an egg yolk sauce. The Pasta Alla Nerano, $26, is the lighter Amalfi Coast choice, with shrimp, zucchini cream, Parmigiano Reggiano and Provolone del Monaco on top. If you are deciding between them, the Nerano is the dish that best suits a warm Miami night.
The show dish is the Pasta Special Cacio e Pepe at $55, finished with black pepper in a Parmigiano Reggiano wheel and topped with burrata and fresh truffle. The plainer Cacio e Pepe and Truffle is $32. Seafood lovers have two splurges: the Pasta Lobster at $60, with a whole Maine lobster, cherry tomatoes, parsley and organic olive oil, and the Special Linguine Scoglio at $65, with clams, mussels, squid, octopus and whole Maine lobster in marinara. A Pizza Margherita Classica is $19, and the tiramisù, made with imported Savoiardi and mascarpone mousse, is $15.
Notice how often the menu reaches for cheese fondue. It finishes the Pasta Ragù, the lobster ravioli and the ossobuco ravioli, and it is the house signature that separates Il Pastaiolo from a classic red-sauce trattoria. If you prefer cleaner flavors, the carbonara, the Nerano and the seafood linguine skip it entirely. A table of four can cover both styles by ordering two fondue dishes and two without, then passing plates around the table.
Hours, Booking and Table Rules
Il Pastaiolo opens at 12 pm every day. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday it closes at 11:30 pm, on Friday and Saturday it closes at 12:30 am, and on Sunday it closes at 11:30 pm. Those late closings are the real advantage on this part of Collins Avenue, where many kitchens wind down earlier. A pasta dinner after a show or a late flight is realistic here, with the kitchen still serving well after 10 pm.
Tables can be booked through OpenTable, Resy or Yelp, as the restaurant's reservations page explains. The OpenTable listing adds the rules for groups: a credit card is required to confirm reservations of eight guests or more, and a $25 per person fee applies for a no-show or late cancellation. For a Friday or Saturday table at prime dinner time, book ahead rather than walking in. Takeout and delivery of the cooked dishes is offered through the website, which helps if you are staying in a nearby hotel.
An Art Deco Walk Before Dinner
The restaurant sits in the middle of the Art Deco District, so give yourself half an hour before the table. Walk one block east to Ocean Drive and the Art Deco Museum and Welcome Center, run by the Miami Design Preservation League, where guided architecture tours start. Also on Ocean Drive, Casa Casuarina, the former Versace mansion, is one of the most photographed facades on the beach. One block west, The Wolfsonian–FIU on Washington Avenue is a design museum and a good rainy-day alternative.
After dinner, Lummus Park and the beach path are a short walk east, and the ocean breeze is the best digestif after a plate of cacio e pepe. Collins Avenue at night is busy with traffic, so cross at the lights at 11th Street or 12th Street rather than mid-block.
Practical Notes
Il Pastaiolo is at 1130 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139, between 11th and 12th Streets in South Beach. The phone number is (786) 362-0152. The kitchen serves from 12 pm daily, with the latest closing at 12:30 am on Friday and Saturday. Menu prices quoted here come from the restaurant's own online menu. Parking in South Beach is mostly metered street parking and municipal garages, and rideshare drop-offs on Collins Avenue are easy. Bring an appetite for one filled pasta and one long pasta per person, and save room for the tiramisù.
