A six o'clock open with breakfast already running makes that plan viable. Eat cheaply, walk the boulevard while it is empty, and be finished with the tourist section before the crowds and the costumed characters arrive around ten. That is a genuinely better Hollywood morning than the standard one and it costs almost nothing.
Midnight is a real limit
The hard stop at midnight is the thing to plan around. Hollywood's nightlife runs considerably later than that, and the boulevard between Highland and Vine is busy well past two at the weekend. This location is not part of that ecosystem.
If you need something after midnight in Hollywood, the twenty-four hour location on North La Brea Avenue is the answer, and it is a short drive or a longer walk west and south. Knowing that in advance saves the specific frustration of standing outside a dark building on the Walk of Fame at ten past midnight.
Where it sits on the tourist corridor
The address is in the middle of the boulevard's heaviest section, close to the Hollywood and Highland complex, the Dolby Theatre and the Chinese Theatre. That puts it within a few minutes of essentially everything a first-time visitor to Hollywood is trying to see.
It also puts it in one of the most expensive food environments in Los Angeles relative to what is actually being served. The restaurants along this stretch are priced for a captive audience, and the gap between boulevard pricing and normal Los Angeles pricing is wide enough to be worth planning around.
The value argument, honestly made
Nobody should eat at a McDonald's in Los Angeles on the merits, in a city with this much cheap food. The argument here is entirely locational: on this particular half-mile, the alternatives are either tourist-priced or a considerable walk away, and a family of four can spend a great deal of money on the boulevard for very little in return.
App deals and the value tier price the same here as they do in the Valley, which is not true of anything else within sight of the Chinese Theatre. That is a real thing to know if the day's budget is meant to cover tickets, parking and a tour as well as lunch.
Getting there without paying to park
The Hollywood and Highland station on the Metro B line is a short walk and it is by far the easiest arrival. Parking in the surrounding structures is expensive and the surface lots on the side streets are worse value than they appear once the posted hourly rate is read properly.
If you are staying anywhere along the boulevard or in the hills below Franklin, walk. Hollywood is more walkable than its reputation suggests within this specific corridor, and the traffic on Highland at any hour makes driving four blocks a genuinely poor decision.
The room at peak, and how to avoid it
Between about noon and three the boulevard's foot traffic peaks and this location absorbs a large share of it. The queue at that hour is made of people ordering for groups, frequently in a second language, frequently for children, and it moves at the speed of the decisions rather than the kitchen.
Ordering through the app before you reach the door puts you on the pickup flow and skips almost all of that. It is the single most useful habit for any high-volume tourist-corridor location, and it costs nothing beyond the two minutes of setting the app up once.
What else to combine it with
The Chinese Theatre forecourt is free to walk into and the handprints are the single best free thing on the boulevard. The Walk of Fame itself costs nothing. The Hollywood Museum in the old Max Factor building is a short walk east and is considerably better than the boulevard's other paid attractions.
Building the day around the free and cheap parts and spending the money on one good thing is the correct approach to Hollywood generally. A six in the morning breakfast, an empty boulevard, and a museum at ten is a better day than three tourist-priced meals and a queue.
