Lagniappe does not look like a music venue and does not really behave like one. It is a converted old house with a backyard, string lights, a very long wine list and a band playing somewhere in the middle of it every single night.
Every night, no exceptions, no bookings. Turn up and find a table in the garden.
What it actually is
A New Orleans-style wine house with a backyard grill and live music every night, at 3425 NE 2nd Avenue — the intersection where Wynwood, Midtown and the Design District meet.
The room is a converted house and the sprawling string-lit backyard is where most of it happens. The comparison people reach for is a friend's backyard party with a serious wine list attached, which is close enough to be useful.
There are no reservations. That is not a policy designed to create scarcity — it is a garden with a lot of mismatched seating, and it works on the basis that people find a table.
The hours
Monday to Thursday, 6.00pm to 2.00am. Friday and Saturday, 6.00pm to 3.00am. Sunday, 6.00pm to 2.00am.
Six o'clock every night, late every night. There is no daytime service, so the string lights are always the setting rather than an evening upgrade.
Live music runs every night with local musicians. Evening sets typically start around 9pm, and afternoon performances are sometimes programmed in the 1pm to 4pm range — though with a 6pm opening, the evening sets are what you will encounter on a normal visit.
The wine, and how to handle it
There are over 200 bottles. That is the number that makes people freeze at the counter, and the way through it is to stop reading and start describing.
Tell whoever is helping you two things: roughly what you usually drink, and what you are eating. That narrows two hundred bottles to three in about twenty seconds, and the recommendation will be better than anything you would have picked yourself off a list that long.
The food is cheese and charcuterie plus grilled classics — churrasco, fresh fish, organic chicken. It is designed to be eaten slowly over a long evening in a garden rather than as a meal you finish and leave.
Why it works for a group
A backyard absorbs a group in a way an indoor bar cannot. People spread across tables, move between them, and the live music gives the whole thing a floor of noise that makes separate conversations possible.
No reservations means you should arrive early with a group rather than late. Six or seven o'clock, before the evening sets start, is when you can claim enough seating for everyone. By ten the garden is full and a group of eight will be standing.
It also means midweek is genuinely viable. The music runs every night, so a Tuesday here is not a lesser version — it is the same programme with a fraction of the crowd.
The neighbourhood
Sitting at the junction of Wynwood, Midtown and the Design District means everything is close. The Design District's public art and architecture are a short walk north and free to look at; the Wynwood murals are a short walk south and mostly free from the pavement.
With a 6pm open, the sensible sequence is to do the walking first while there is light, then settle in the garden once it is dark and the lights are the point.
Parking is easier here than in the middle of Wynwood, which is one of the quieter advantages of the location.
Ordering wine by describing, not reading
A two-hundred-bottle list is designed for people who want to browse and is intimidating for everyone else. The fastest route through it is to hand the problem back.
Give three pieces of information: a colour, a rough price you are comfortable with, and one wine you have enjoyed before. That last one does most of the work — naming almost any wine gives a knowledgeable server a reference point for style, body and acidity in a way that 'something dry' does not.
If you cannot name a wine, describe a food. 'Something that goes with the churrasco' is a completely legitimate order and will produce a better result than picking a familiar-looking label.
Order by the bottle if there are three or more of you. It is almost always better value than glasses, and in a garden over several hours a bottle is not the commitment it looks like on the list.
