Miami has a reputation for being awake late that its kitchens only partly earn. Nightlife runs until 5am; food service mostly does not. The gap between 11pm — when a large share of restaurant kitchens close — and 3am, when the genuinely late places are still going, is where dinner plans go to die, particularly if you are on the wrong side of the bay. What follows is that tier: the kitchens that are actually cooking past eleven, sorted by neighbourhood, because in this city the neighbourhood question is the whole question.
Late hours in Miami move seasonally and by day of the week, and a place that runs to 3am on Saturday frequently stops at midnight on Tuesday. Tell Karpo where you are and what time it is, and it will tell you which kitchens near you are still open rather than which doors are.
La Sandwicherie: 5am, Three Neighbourhoods
The most useful address in this entire category, and it has three of them — Brickell, Wynwood and Miami Beach — all running until 5am. It is a French sandwich counter that has been feeding people leaving clubs for decades, and the reason it works at 3am is that the food is genuinely good rather than merely available: baguettes made to order, a vinaigrette people are unreasonably loyal to, and vegetables that have not been sitting under a lamp. Because there is one on each side of the bay, it is also the rare late option you can plan around regardless of where the night ends up. Expect a queue between 2am and 4am on weekends; it moves quickly.

Wynwood: Burgers Until Three
Wynwood is where the late-night density is highest, largely because the crowd leaving the galleries and rooms there has to eat somewhere. Cowy Burger holds to 3am on Friday and Saturday with smash burgers that are considerably better than the hour requires. Celia's does the same category at a similar hour and has become the default for people who work in the neighbourhood. The Asian food hall runs to 2am on weekends, which is the best option if the group cannot agree — several counters, one room, everybody gets what they want. The practical note for Wynwood specifically: parking after midnight is easier than at 9pm, and walking between these is a five-minute proposition, so it is the one neighbourhood where you can improvise rather than commit.
South Beach: Cheeseburgers and Slices
The beach has fewer real late kitchens than its reputation implies, and the ones that survive are specialists. Cheeseburger Baby is the institution — a small counter that has outlasted a great deal of glossier competition and does exactly one thing properly past midnight. Nick's covers the slice requirement, which on South Beach at 2am is a genuine public service. Beyond those, the honest advice is to look at hotel lobbies, which run later than street-level restaurants, or accept a causeway drive. If you are staying on the beach and you know you will want food at 1am, decide before you go out; discovering the situation at closing time is how people end up eating from a petrol station.
Brickell and Downtown
Brickell empties earlier than its density suggests — it is a residential and office neighbourhood with restaurants attached rather than a nightlife district — but the late options that exist are good. Hey Tortilla Madre runs a tight taqueria menu of seven tacos, which is exactly the right size of menu for 1am. Pepitos Plaza, the Venezuelan counter that has been doing this since 2002, is the neighbourhood veteran and covers hot dogs, pepitos and the kind of large late-night sandwich that makes sense only after midnight. Add the Brickell branch of La Sandwicherie and you have a functional three-stop map for the entire area.
What Closes Earlier Than You Think
Almost everything with a tablecloth. The general pattern in Miami is that kitchens at sit-down restaurants close between 10pm and 11pm on weeknights and around midnight on weekends, even where the room stays open later — and the distinction between the kitchen closing and the venue closing is the single most common source of late-night disappointment here. The classic Cuban restaurants, which everyone assumes run all night, mostly do not: several of the most famous close between 11pm and 1am depending on the night. If your plan involves a specific restaurant after 11pm, call rather than trusting any listing. Hours in this category are the least reliable data on the internet.
The Delivery Question at 1am
Late-night delivery in Miami is worse than it looks on the app. The restaurants listed as open frequently are not, drivers are scarce after midnight, and an order placed at 1am can arrive at 2:15am cold, or be cancelled after forty minutes of waiting. The apps also keep showing kitchens that stopped taking orders an hour earlier, which is how people end up eating nothing at all. If you are in for the night and hungry, the higher-probability move is a fifteen-minute walk or drive to a counter that is definitely open rather than a gamble on a platform, and the food will be hot when you get to it.
How to Plan a Late Dinner Properly
Decide the side of the bay first — the causeways are the constraint, and a 1am drive from South Beach to Wynwood is fifteen minutes that feels like forty when everyone is hungry. Ask specifically about kitchen close rather than opening hours. Prefer counters to restaurants after midnight, because a counter with one cook can stay open in a way a kitchen with a full brigade cannot. Carry cash for the small places. And if you are going out with the expectation of eating afterwards, pick the late spot before the night starts — the decision quality at 2am is not high, and the difference between planning it and improvising is usually the difference between a good sandwich and a bad one.

Ask Karpo first
Late-night hours are the first thing a Miami kitchen cuts and the last thing anyone updates, and the difference between the door being open and the kitchen being open is rarely posted anywhere. Before you drive across a causeway at 1am, ask Karpo in iMessage what is genuinely still cooking near you, how late it runs tonight, and whether you need cash when you get there.
