A restaurants near me search in Silver Lake rarely surfaces a sports bar near the top, because sports bars in Los Angeles are usually where food goes to be reheated. Pijja Palace, on Sunset near the 101, is the exception that has spent the past few years scrambling everybody's categories: a genuine sports bar, with the televisions on and the volume up, serving Indian-American cooking that people drive across the city for.

Avish Naran opened the room in 2022 in a building that had been a series of failed restaurants, and the concept is not a fusion gimmick so much as an accurate description of how a lot of second-generation Indian Americans in Southern California actually eat. You watch the game. You drink a beer. The food on the table is the food you grew up with, adapted to bar format.
That premise is why the place works where a more reverent Indian restaurant with televisions bolted on would not. Nothing about the room apologises for being a sports bar: booths, a long bar, screens angled so you can see one from almost any seat, and a crowd that genuinely reacts when something happens on screen.
It also means the volume is real. If you are looking for a quiet dinner, this is the wrong room, and no amount of good cooking will change that. Come when you want the noise, not in spite of it.
What to order
The tikka masala rigatoni is the dish that made the reputation, and it deserves it. It is not a novelty mashup: the sauce has the depth of a properly built masala rather than a tomato cream with spice stirred in, and rigatoni holds it better than any Italian sauce it was designed for. Order it even if you think you are above ordering it.
The pizzas carry the name and are worth having, particularly anything leaning on paneer or a heavily spiced sausage. The malai rigatoni is the alternative for anyone who wants something less aggressive, and the cricket-adjacent snack dishes are the right thing to put on the table while you wait for everything else.
How the waitlist works
This room has run substantially on a walk-in waitlist rather than advance reservations for most of its life, which is a deliberate choice and the single most common source of frustration for people arriving unprepared. You put your name down and you wait at the bar or outside.
The practical strategy is straightforward. Get your name on the list as early in the evening as you can, then drink at the bar rather than leaving the premises. On a big game night the wait can stretch past ninety minutes, and on a Tuesday in the off-season you may walk straight in.
The bar itself takes walk-ins for seats when they open up, and eating at the bar is the fastest route to a table of any kind. If you are one or two people, say so clearly, because a pair is far easier to place than a group of five.
Drinks and the game
The drinks list is built for the format: beer, a short list of cocktails that lean toward the refreshing rather than the complex, and options that survive being carried through a crowd. The spice level in a lot of the food is high enough that a cold lager does more useful work than anything more considered would.
On screens, the programming follows whatever the major LA sport is in season, which in practice means Dodgers baseball through the summer, Lakers and Kings through the winter, and football on weekends. Cricket has also appeared for major international fixtures, which is entirely in keeping with the premise and is not something you can say about many bars in California.
Silver Lake around it
The location on Sunset near the 101 is technically the eastern edge of Silver Lake, close to the Silver Lake and Echo Park boundary and within a few minutes of the freeway, which makes it unusually easy to reach by car for an LA restaurant that people cross the city for.
The surrounding blocks have a dense run of bars and late-night food, so a long wait is not the dead end it would be in a quieter neighbourhood. Sunset Junction is a ten-minute walk west, and the Echo Park lake is a similar distance east if you want somewhere to put a pre-dinner hour.
Practical notes
Address: 2711 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, at the eastern end of Silver Lake. Evening service most nights with the kitchen running late; check the current schedule and the day's fixtures before setting out, because the crowd scales with what is on. Street parking around Sunset is metered and tight; the side streets are permit-restricted in places.
Put your name on the list first and drink at the bar second, order the tikka masala rigatoni on any first visit, come for a game rather than despite one, and bring people who are happy to shout a bit.
