Silver Lake is one of the few neighbourhoods that runs a second one — a genuinely late window that opens after half past ten, when the early-evening crowd has gone and the room is a different room. Knowing that both exist changes how you plan an evening here more than knowing which bar is best.

The early window
Little Joy Cocktails runs a happy hour from 4pm to 7pm every day, with classic cocktails at fourteen dollars. That is the standard shape of the thing and it does what it is supposed to do: gives you a reason to start early, in a room that is comfortable before it is busy.
The early window in this neighbourhood is worth taking more seriously than elsewhere, for a structural reason. Silver Lake's restaurants keep bar seats back for walk-ins and open at five, so an early drink positions you correctly for a same-night dinner that would otherwise require a reservation you do not have. Starting at six here is not merely cheaper, it is strategically better.
The late window, which is the unusual part
Little Joy also runs a late happy hour from 10.30pm to close, Sunday through Thursday. Late happy hours are rare anywhere and almost unheard of on the Eastside. The effect is that a weeknight in Silver Lake has a second beginning — the evening that was winding down at ten restarts, at early-evening prices, with a completely different crowd in the room.
The Sunday-to-Thursday framing is the catch and it is also the point. This is a deal built for the neighbourhood rather than for the weekend, which is precisely why the room is worth being in when it runs.
The one that is a timer, not a price
Bacari Silverlake at 3626 Sunset Boulevard runs a ninety-minute open bar special, which is a fundamentally different mechanism from a discounted drinks list. You are buying a block of time rather than a set of cheaper items, and the maths only works if you actually intend to stay and drink for most of it. It is a Venetian-leaning small-plates room with a rotating list of small-production wines, so there is real food alongside, and its hours run late — to 12.30am on Thursday and 1am on Friday and Saturday.
This is the right choice for a group that has committed to an evening, and the wrong choice for two people having one drink before dinner. Being honest with yourself about which of those you are is the whole decision.
The one people walk past
L&E Oyster Bar at 1637 Silver Lake Boulevard has an upstairs space that runs its own happy hour, and most people who have been to L&E have only been downstairs. Oysters at a happy hour price are among the better value propositions in this part of the city, and the upstairs room is calmer than the ground floor. There is also a burger and a wedge salad heavy on bacon bits, which is what you order when the oysters have not filled anyone up.
Bar Besito at 1710 Silver Lake Boulevard, a short walk away, works on tinned fish and tapas — conservas straight from the tin, like mackerel marinated in yuzu koshu — which is an unusually good match for drinking early on a hot evening.
Building the evening
The version that uses the neighbourhood properly: start at L&E upstairs or Bar Besito around six, walk to a Sunset Boulevard restaurant at seven and take the bar seats, then, if it is a Sunday to Thursday, finish at Little Joy after half past ten on the late window. That sequence uses both happy hours and the walk-in dinner capacity in between, and it never requires a booking at any point.
