Booking for twelve at two days' notice on a Thursday is a genuinely different problem, and the reason is physical: most bars are built from small tables and a rail, and a group of twelve either occupies a whole section or stands in a clump blocking the service route. Bars know this, which is why the answer to a large walk-in group is so often a polite no.

The formats that absorb a group
The beer garden and the large patio are the best answer, because they have communal seating and no fixed table geometry. A group of twelve at picnic tables is normal; the same twelve in a cocktail bar with eight two-tops is a problem. Los Angeles has a good supply of these, and the climate means they work most of the year.
The brewery taproom is the second. Taprooms are built for volume, usually have long tables, generally do not require a booking for a group and are relaxed about people arriving in ones and twos over an hour — which is what actually happens with a team, no matter what the invitation said.
The third is the restaurant with a bar section that takes reservations. This is the option to use when the group needs to sit down and eat as well as drink, and it is the only one of the three where you should expect a minimum spend.

Is there an automatic service charge, and at what percentage. And how long is the space held, because a two-hour limit changes how you run the evening.
Then be honest about the headcount. Booking for fifteen and turning up with eight is a real cost to the venue and is the fastest way to be refused next time. Reconfirm the number the day before.
The neighbourhoods with the space
Space is the binding constraint, so the answer is the parts of the county with larger buildings and cheaper square footage. The Arts District and the industrial edges east of downtown have the largest rooms. Culver City, Frogtown, Glassell Park and parts of the Valley along the boulevards have taprooms and large patios. Highland Park and Eagle Rock have good mid-sized rooms with outdoor space.
The places to avoid for a large group are the small, fashionable rooms in West Hollywood, Silver Lake and Venice, which are excellent for four people and structurally incapable of taking twelve without ruining the evening for everyone else in the room.
The logistics that actually decide it
Two things matter more than the bar. Parking, because twelve people driving separately need twelve spaces and an Arts District warehouse bar at seven on a Thursday does not have them — pick somewhere near a Metro station or with a structure, and say so in the invitation. And the exit, because a group that has been drinking needs a plan that is not twelve individual rideshares surging at the same moment from the same address. Naming a nearby station, agreeing a leaving time, or picking a venue in a walkable neighbourhood solves more problems than any amount of choosing the right cocktail list.
The invitation is part of the logistics
The thing that most often breaks a group evening is not the venue, it is the message that organised it. Twelve people need one address, one time, one note about parking or the nearest station, and one clear answer about who is paying.
