The city has maybe a dozen of those, they are scattered from the Outer Sunset to the Financial District, and their opening hours are much stranger than the cafes that only pour.

Andytown Coffee Roasters runs ten locations, and only one of them is the production facility: 3016 Taraval Street, which the company lists as the roastery, training lab and coffee supply counter, open 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm on weekends. That is the address to go to if you want to see the equipment rather than just taste the output.
The distinction matters because Andytown's other Sunset addresses are frequently mistaken for it. The original cafe and bakery is 3655 Lawton Street, daily 7am to 5pm. The beach cafe is 3629 Taraval, 8am to 3pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 5pm Friday to Sunday, which is the shortest weekday window in the group and the one people most often turn up to at four in the afternoon expecting service. There is also a counter inside Ocean Plant at 800 Great Highway, daily 7am to 5pm.
Downtown, the same roaster runs two very different rooms: the seventh-floor flagship at 181 Fremont Street, 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm on weekends, and a newer Financial District flagship at 66 Kearny Street that is weekdays only, 7am to 5pm, closed Saturday and Sunday. The Front Street kiosk at 747 Front is also weekday-only, 7am to 4pm. If your plan involves downtown on a Sunday, half this list is shut.
The Mission Pair That Anchor the Whole Scene
Ritual Coffee Roasters at 1026 Valencia Street is the room most responsible for the modern shape of coffee in this city, and it keeps genuinely long hours for the category: 6:30am to 7pm Monday to Thursday, and 6:30am to 8pm Friday through Sunday. An 8pm Sunday close is not a coffee-shop hour, it is closer to a restaurant hour, and it makes Valencia the only realistic answer if you want a properly made espresso after dinner.
Four Barrel at 375 Valencia is the other half of that block's reputation, open 7am to 5pm every day, with a second room at The Mill, 736 Divisadero Street, keeping the same daily 7am to 5pm. Four Barrel's original roastery sat at the back of the Valencia space and is now used for storage, training and cuppings rather than daily production, which is the single most misreported fact about the place. People still walk in expecting to watch a roast happen behind the counter.
SoMa, Russian Hill and the Early-Opening Problem
Sightglass at 270 7th Street is the one to know if you are an early riser: 6:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm on weekends. A 6:30am weekday open puts it in a very small group in this city, and it is a genuinely useful fact if you are catching an early flight or a morning train and want something better than an airport cup.
Saint Frank keeps two San Francisco rooms, 2340 Polk Street in Russian Hill and 120 Folsom Street, both 7am to 6pm seven days a week. The 6pm close is the latest consistent weekday close on this list outside the Mission, and the seven-day schedule is rarer than it sounds. A large share of specialty counters in this city quietly drop to a reduced weekend schedule or close entirely on one weekday.
How to Read a Roastery Counter
Three habits will tell you more than any list. First, ask what the roast date is on the bag they are brewing, not on the retail shelf. A counter attached to production will know it to the day. Second, ask whether the filter offering is a single origin or a blend this week, because roasteries rotate their single origins on a lot-by-lot basis and the answer changes what you should order. Third, ask if they run cuppings. Four Barrel's back room exists for exactly that purpose and Andytown's Taraval address is described as a training lab, which means both are set up to host people who want to taste comparatively rather than only order a cup.
The second, more practical habit is checking the day of the week before you walk. This is a city where two of the most convenient downtown coffee counters close entirely on weekends and one beach cafe stops serving at three in the afternoon on a Tuesday. The coffee here is excellent and the schedules are unforgiving, and almost every disappointing morning comes from the second fact rather than the first.
