Zip the West Maui Slopes With Lanai Across the Channel

Eight lines over the West Maui slopes above Ka'anapali, reached by 4x4 after a weigh-in and a step test at a Lahaina shop.

Zip West Maui's slopes with Lanai in view.

Skyline Hawaii runs this course in the West Maui Mountains, above the Ka'anapali resort coast. The day begins at the company's check-in store at 111 Ulupono Street in Lahaina, and the tour opens with an off-road drive in the operator's 4x4 vehicles to the top of the course. Then come eight lines. Skyline puts its highest points at up to 150 feet above the ground. Plan on about three hours; the operator says 2.5 to 3.5, depending on group size. The booking listing names Lanai among the views, and riders' reviews from 2019 to 2024 name both Lanai and Molokai across the water.

On the booking calendar, Sunday departures run at 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, and Monday to Thursday add 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Checked in mid-October 2026, the calendar showed no Friday or Saturday departures on any date sampled through early December. Bookings on this listing close 48 hours before departure, and the form asks for each rider's weight. Check-in is 30 minutes before your slot.

A Scale and a Step Test Come First

Every rider is weighed at check-in, and the 80-to-260-pound limit is strictly enforced. Two riders' reviews describe the shop's scale reading differently from their home scales; near either limit, the shop's number is the one that counts. Skyline's booking notes add a bench step test at the retail store, to confirm each rider can move around the course and step on and off the 4x4 vehicles. Anyone who does not meet the requirements at check-in forfeits their ticket: both the listing and the operator state it is non-refundable. The minimum age is 10. Anyone under 18 needs a legal guardian to sign, and kids 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older.

What the Walk and the Drive Up Ask of You

Skyline's own requirements ask that every rider be able to hike two miles at elevation over uneven surfaces. The booking listing gives a lighter figure, half a mile over uneven terrain, and marks the tour as suitable for all physical fitness levels. Skyline runs the check-in. Plan around its two miles. The drive up asks something too: riders' reviews from 2016 through 2026 keep describing it as a bumpy dirt road, and several say helmets went on inside the van. If you get carsick, plan for that ride. The operator does not recommend the tour for anyone with serious neck, back, knee or joint injuries, chronic heart problems or recent surgery, and it does not take pregnant riders. The course sits at elevation; Skyline asks for no scuba diving in the 24 hours before.

What to Wear Up the Mountain

Shoes must fit snugly and fully enclose both toe and heel. Water shoes, five-finger shoes, and Croc, Teva or Keen-style sandals are not permitted. Skyline suggests shorts and a T-shirt, reef-safe sunscreen and a strap for glasses or sunglasses. Phones and cameras are welcome if they are strapped to you, and GoPro cameras are available to rent. Bags get locked up while you zip. The operator's packing list also includes cash or a card for a tip.

Guides, Daily Inspections and Rain

The Association of Challenge Course Technology lists Skyline Hawaii's Ka'anapali site among its accredited zip line tour operations. Skyline says its staff inspect every line, platform, trail and piece of equipment each day, and that guides train for 80 hours plus a three-day immersion in Hawaiian history, culture and native ecosystems. Tours run rain or shine. Riders' reviews from 2019 and 2021 describe days when wind or heavy rain took one or two of the eight lines out of use. If weather forces a cancellation, the listing offers a different date or a full refund. The listing sells up to 12 seats per departure.

Check-in is at 111 Ulupono Street in Lahaina, which Skyline puts 10 to 15 minutes' drive from the main Ka'anapali resort area, with free parking on the property. You make your own way there; hotel pickup is not part of this booking. Arrive 30 minutes before your slot. The listing asks you to contact Skyline as soon as your confirmation arrives, to pass on the extra details it needs. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; cancellations within 24 hours receive none. After the weigh-in and the drive up, the rest of the visit is the eight-line course over the West Maui slopes, with the Ka'anapali coast below.
