Built in 2004 as a tsunami defense structure, the facility pairs broad regional perspectives—extending to the Hakone mountain range—with an up-close look inside the water gate's machinery. Seating on the viewing level allows visitors to pause over the mechanics or watch for passing eagles. Come evening, full-color LED illumination shifts across the exterior according to the season and day of the week, turning the heavy infrastructure into a striking waterfront landmark.
