Description

Located on the grounds of Haragosha Shrine next to a local elementary school, this compact site holds a stark artifact of Sakurajima's 1914 Taisho eruption. In a single day, falling ash buried a two-meter torii gate until only its top crossbeam remained above ground.

The gate stands quietly in its swallowed state—so understated it can take a moment to recognize. Despite a steady stream of visitors, the small setting remains noticeably calm, wrapped in the sounds of nature.
