Your Signature Scent, Poured on a Long Island City Sunday

Learn about fragrances from an instructor, mix a blend of your own, then hand-pour it and leave with what you made.

Artisane is a New York candle studio founded by Mélanie Rousselet, who is originally from France. On Sundays it runs this 90-minute class inside The Greats of Craft, a coffee shop and bar in Long Island City. On the booking page the seller appears as Artisane Atelier.

The session opens with an introduction to scent and candle making with non-toxic ingredients. Then you blend a fragrance of your own and pour it. No candle-making experience is needed, and a shared class tops out at 14 guests.

The class includes one drink. Pricing is per person, and adults and children aged 6 to 10 pay the same price. Confirmation is instant, and the booking comes as one ticket, accepted on your phone or on paper.

The Scent Comes Before the Wax

The activity notes on the listing set the order: an introduction to scent and candle making, a lesson on fragrances, then a blend you make yourself. The overview promises premium wax, natural fragrances and elegant vessels, and it leaves the fragrance choice and the candle's design to you.

The activity notes say each guest makes two candles from the blend, while the overview speaks of a single hand-poured candle. Either way, you leave with what you poured.

The same notes mention meeting other enthusiasts. The listing offers guiding in English, French and Spanish.

A Warehouse Lounge Near the Queensboro Bridge

The Greats of Craft calls itself a coffee shop by day and a bar by night. Its Long Island City warehouse stands at 10-15 43rd Ave, and the listing puts the class in the lounge room. The venue's events page says its Long Island City space includes a large rooftop, a bright indoor warehouse and a hidden cocktail bar called Bar Enzo, which sits on the second floor of the same building.

The same company runs a second Long Island City location at 4720 Center Blvd, on the waterfront. This class is at 43rd Ave. Artisane's own event pages place its Long Island City sessions in the venue's private lounge at the warehouse.

Who Can Book a Seat

The booking page takes two age groups: adults aged 18 to 80, and children aged 6 to 10. Children can only be booked alongside an adult, and there is no age group for 11 to 17.

The listing ticks the following, and neither Artisane nor the venue describes physical access on its own website:

  • Wheelchair access across the space and its surfaces
  • Service animals allowed
  • Public transportation nearby, with wheelchair-accessible transportation options
  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • Strollers and lap infants, although the youngest bookable age is 6

Booking, Changes and the First Burn

Cancel at least 24 hours before the start for a full refund. Inside 24 hours, nothing is refunded, and the listing allows the class to be called off when too few people book.

Booking stays open up to the start time. On its summer class page, Artisane recommends letting the candle cure before you light it.
