Your Own Helicopter Over the Kona Coast
A private helicopter flight along the Kona Coast, north toward Kua Bay or south toward Captain Cook, with the pilot narrating.
This is the short helicopter flight on the Kona side of the island. The listing sells it as a 30-minute flight, and the operator's own page puts it at 20 to 30 minutes. Only your party flies: up to three passengers plus the pilot, and every seat is a window seat. One traveler put the appeal in a sentence: "You don’t have to worry about sharing the trip with strangers."

The booking covers the flight, airport and departure tax, the fuel surcharge, free parking and the phone strap you are required to use. Gratuities, hotel pickup and a jacket are not included. Prices are per person with a two-seat minimum, and one person flying alone pays for two seats. As of October 27, 2026, the booking calendar showed departures at 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 PM on the dates checked through January.

The listing describes two flights under one name, and both leave from the Kona Airport area. Southbound passes Honokohau Bay, Kona town and Keauhou on the way to Captain Cook. Northbound follows the coast to Kua Bay, Kiholo Bay, Hapuna Beach and Kawaihae. Neither the listing nor the operator says passengers pick the direction. The operator's page says flight paths depend on weather and conditions, and that not every landmark can be guaranteed.
The pilot narrates over the headset, and a push-to-talk button lets you ask questions in the air. The listing also pitches this flight for whale season, as a short way to look for whales offshore. It does not say how often whales turn up.
Check-In at the Tiki Hut, Then the Scale

Check-in is at the operator's base at 73-310 Uu Street in Kailua-Kona, and you wait in the Tiki Hut there. The listing says to arrive no later than 30 minutes before flight time. The operator's policy page asks for 35 to 40 minutes and treats anyone not checked in by then as a cancellation, billed at full price. Plan on 40.
The listing asks every passenger for photo ID; the operator's policy page sets the ID rule at 18 and older. Everyone is weighed with whatever they carry aboard. The limit is 275 pounds per passenger and 650 pounds for the party, and going over either number means no flight while the full price is still owed. The listing marks the flight as wheelchair accessible. The operator's FAQ says every passenger must be able to board and leave the aircraft without help, and offers a step stool for the climb in.
Doors On or Off, and What to Wear
The listing and the operator describe the doors in two different ways. The listing says the flight goes doors-off, except for passengers aged 7 to 11. The operator's own page and FAQ describe it as a choice between doors on and doors off, and say some doors can stay on while others come off, subject to weight and balance. Children 7 to 11 sit next to a closed door; an open door is for passengers 12 and older. One traveler flew without doors despite their fears and called it "the best choice."
Dress for wind. The listing warns of 100-plus mph winds in flight and temperatures as low as 55°F. Bring a light long-sleeve layer, tie long hair back, wear shoes that stay on or fly barefoot, and leave earrings and hair accessories behind. Anything used for photos must be strapped. The operator hands out phone straps and does not allow your own, and extra camera lenses are not permitted.
Weather Calls and Two Extra Charges
Weather can cancel the flight close to departure. The operator's FAQ says a tour may be adjusted or canceled up to 40 minutes before departure, and if weather cancels it, the listing offers another date or a full refund. One traveler in October 2026 had the flight called off three hours ahead on a day of "bright sunshine, blue sky." The operator suggests booking early in your stay to leave room for another try.
Two charges on the operator's policy page are not part of the booking price: USD 200 for an unscheduled landing, such as for motion sickness or a bathroom stop, and USD 100 for cleaning if someone is sick in the cabin. Ask the pilot for an Aloha Bag before takeoff if motion sickness is a worry.
