Your Own Driver Down Highway One to Big Sur
A private car and driver for the Big Sur run, with three unhurried hours above the water at the halfway point.
The run from San Jose down to Big Sur is a driving day. Eight hours, most of it on Highway One, with the view sitting on the ocean side of the car. On this one somebody else is at the wheel.
The vehicle carries your group and nobody else, anywhere from one person to twelve. It leaves from 65 Cahill Street, which is San Jose Diridon Station. The day can start straight off a train.

The price covers the vehicle, the driver, and all fees and taxes. Lunch, dinner and the tip sit outside it.
Booking closes twenty-four hours before departure, and that same twenty-four hours is the line for a full refund. Confirmation comes back instantly. This trip holds 4.8 from 37 reviews.
Big Sur Monterey California Coast from San Jose 1 - 12 peopleAn eight-hour private charter for one to twelve people, leaving from San Jose Diridon. Operated by California Pacific Excursions.www.viator.comWhat the Driver Actually Stops For

The road turns coastal past Carmel. Garrapata State Park and Rocky Point get half an hour, Bixby Bridge gets another half hour for pictures, and a third stop looks across at Point Sur Lighthouse from Hurricane Point. Point Lobos goes by along the way.
The outbound leg runs through redwoods to Santa Cruz and Castroville before any of that. The return swings inland through Monterey, Prunedale, Gilroy and Morgan Hill without stopping.
Caltrans has one-way signal control at Rocky Creek Bridge, 15.7 miles south of Monterey, running 24 hours a day through 30 November 2026 for construction. That bridge sits just north of Bixby. The wait falls exactly where everyone wants to be taking photographs.
Three Hours at the Halfway Point

The middle of the day is one long stop. The itinerary allows three hours at Big Sur River Inn, or on the terraces at Nepenthe, Café Kevah and the Phoenix, all of them above the Pacific. Lunch is not in the price. That block is where you eat.
After it comes about an hour on foot among the coast redwoods in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.
One Vehicle, Sized to Your Group
Up to six people ride in a full-size SUV. Seven to twelve get a Mercedes Sprinter. Either way the vehicle is yours alone, with air conditioning and WiFi on board, and the driver doubles as the guide.
The operator calls this a private trip and says the driver will stop at the places you want to enjoy along the route. Raise your list at the start of the day.
Coming Back by Train
The return comes in two shapes. The vehicle brings you back to 65 Cahill Street the way it came, or you step off at Salinas and ride Amtrak's Coast Starlight north to that same station. The price covers either one.
The northbound Coast Starlight runs once a day and leaves Salinas at 6:13 p.m. It reaches San Jose Diridon later the same evening. One departure is the entire timetable. Settle which way you are coming home with the operator when you book.
A few things to have straight. The operator can cancel for bad weather. Specialized infant seats are available, and an infant can ride in a pram or stroller. The day is rated suitable for all physical fitness levels, and it is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Tickets are mobile or paper, one per booking.
