Your Hour Starts After the Axe Coaching Ends in Indianapolis
Most first-timers assume the lesson eats into the hour. At this Speedway range the operator says it does not, which changes what you are buying.
Flying Squirrel Axe and Knife Throwing sits in the Speedway Super Center on Crawfordsville Road, behind a Thorntons gas station and in front of a Burlington, about a mile from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Inside are twenty lanes, each one with a target projected onto the wood and a tablet keeping score. The booking is sixty minutes. What the listing does not spell out is where those sixty minutes begin.

One term matters before you pick a slot. This listing is sold all sales final: a cancellation gets no refund. Booked direct with the venue the terms differ, with a non-refundable deposit but a reschedule allowed if you move it at least twenty-four hours out. The link below puts you on the first set of terms, so pick a date you can keep.
1 Hour Axe Throwing ExperienceSixty minutes on a lane with projected targets and tablet scoring, after a coach-led safety and technique lesson. Age ten and up.www.viator.comThe Coaching Comes First, Then the Clock

Every session opens with a coach. They cover the safety rules, then the throw itself: stance, grip, distance, and the release that makes a hatchet turn once and bite. The operator's own FAQ is unusually plain about what happens next — once the lesson is over, your time will officially start. Read that as sixty minutes of throwing rather than sixty minutes that include being taught. No experience is assumed, and coaches stay in the room for the whole hour to correct what you are doing wrong.
Twenty Lanes, and a Tablet That Keeps Score

There are twenty targets, and every lane has a projector putting a game onto the wood and a tablet tracking points. That is the part first-timers do not expect: you are not stabbing at a bullseye for an hour, you are playing tic-tac-toe or working a dartboard layout against whoever came with you. Once you settle in, the coaches will hand you other things to throw, including knives, throwing stars, big axe and even shovels. When you are off the line there is a pool table, a boxer machine, arcade cabinets and a TouchTunes jukebox. You can book up to 15 throwers on one reservation, and a single traveller can book alone.
Plan for Drinks and Snacks to Cost Extra
The venue pours beer, hard seltzer, cider, hard kombucha and wine, and sells snacks such as peanuts, almonds, cashews, chips and popcorn, plus soft drinks. Plan to pay separately for drinks and snacks: the operator's site says it sells both, although the Viator listing places them under inclusions. Confirm the charge when you arrive rather than relying on the inclusion label. You may bring food in or have it delivered, and groups of twelve or more can arrange catering by email, but outside alcohol is not allowed anywhere on the property, parking lot included. Inside is tobacco-free.
Closed Mondays and Tuesdays for Throwing
The week is narrower than a strip-mall address suggests. Lanes run Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 PM, Friday from 3:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM, in half-hour starts; there is no Monday or Tuesday slot at all, and the latest start is 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. Closed-toe shoes are not a suggestion and flip-flops get turned away, though the desk keeps a few pairs of loaner clogs for anyone caught out. Throwers must be at least ten, and anyone under eighteen needs a guardian to sign ahead of time and to come along.
Finding it is the easy part: the unit sits in the Speedway Super Center on Crawfordsville Road, tucked behind the Thorntons and in front of the Burlington, roughly fifteen minutes from both downtown Indianapolis and the airport. Park out front, sign the waiver before you arrive if you can, and the coach starts once everyone in your group has checked in.
