Your Group Picks the Coves on a Private Tahoe Pontoon
Your group gets a 23-foot Bennington pontoon and a hired captain at the wheel. Where you stop and swim is your call.
This listing rents out one 23-foot Bennington pontoon from Tahoe Keys Marina in South Lake Tahoe for two, three or four hours, and nobody else rides along. What the booking price leaves out is the person at the wheel. The operator says its marina contract requires a Coast Guard-certified captain at the helm, so every trip has one, and you pay that captain yourself on the day. Boating experience does not change that.
The rest is loose by design. The listing sets no route, and the captain takes the group where it asks, within what the wind and other boats allow.

The price on the card below is per boat, the same whether two people come or eleven. Eleven is the ceiling for this boat on both the listing and the operator's own site. Every block starts at 9:00 AM, 1:00 PM or 5:00 PM. On Saturdays the listing sells only the two-hour and four-hour blocks.

The listing leaves the captain out of the price. Its description puts the wage at USD 70 to 80 an hour, and its list of exclusions shows the captain at USD 225 per booking. The operator's own price list is exact: USD 75 an hour, paid straight to the captain on the day in cash, Zelle or Venmo. That comes to USD 150 for a two-hour block, USD 225 for three and USD 300 for four, on top of what you pay here.
A 2023 guest wrote that the captain's pay "was not covered at the time of the booking" and caught the group off guard at the end of the trip, and that a week later the booking agent asked for "additional fuel costs." The operator replied that it had waived that group's fuel charges. Neither the listing nor the operator's current FAQ and price list names a fuel charge, so ask about fuel before you book, and decide who in your group carries the cash or the app before you reach the marina.
Room for Eleven, and No Restroom Aboard

The listing describes a 23-foot Bennington with a 200-horsepower engine, a swingback lounger, a changing room, LED lights and a Bluetooth stereo. It includes life vests, an ice chest, towels, blankets and a double Bimini for shade. The operator's FAQ adds paddle boards and a propane grill, and you can bring your own food and drinks.
Eleven fits. A 2025 party of eleven wrote that the boat "very comfortably sat all 11" of them. There is no restroom on board. The operator says restrooms around the lake are easy to reach during the trip, so ask the captain for a stop. Dogs are welcome on the operator's 2021 Bennington, which matches this listing's 23-foot, 200-horsepower boat; its newer boat takes no dogs.
Where You Go Is the Group's Call
The listing gives no route. The operator's FAQ says you can stop and jump off just about anywhere on the lake, and the captain only weighs other boat traffic and water conditions such as large waves. Guests describe captains taking requests.
Emerald Bay comes up in several guest accounts. The operator says four hours is enough to cruise there, anchor in a quiet cove and be back for dinner, and a 2025 group fit Emerald Bay into a two-hour block. A 2026 family took a dip at Emerald Bay and passed what they called the Godfather house. Others mention paddle boarding off the boat.
Go Early for Calm Water; the 5 PM Start Misses Winter Sunsets
Replying to a guest in 2026, the operator said the wind "does always pick up around 11:00-12:00 PM everyday." That guest's own advice was to go earlier in the day, because the afternoon wind can make the water very choppy. If smooth water matters, take the 9:00 AM start.
The 5:00 PM start is the sunset slot for most of the year, but not in early winter. By U.S. Naval Observatory tables, sunset at South Lake Tahoe ranges from about 4:40 PM in early December to about 8:30 PM in late June. From the start of November until mid-January the sun is down before 5:00 PM, so a 5:00 PM block then runs in the dark. The rest of the year, a 2022 guest's advice holds: book until a good 30 minutes past sunset. The operator also warns that cold and rain can turn up at any time of day. The Bimini, blankets and towels aboard help, and a warm layer helps more.
📍 Meet at Tahoe Keys Marina, 2435 Venice Dr E, South Lake Tahoe. The listing points you past the boat launch ramp to a spot it labels Rubicon Pier A-135, and the operator says the captain meets you at the dock about 15 minutes before departure.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the start for a full refund. Inside 24 hours there is no refund.
- If poor weather cancels the trip, you are offered a different date or a full refund.
- The operator's blog says it moves its boats to a heated indoor storage facility in Carson City for the winter, and it names no dates. The listing still sells all three start times every day through the winter months.
- The listing marks the boat as wheelchair and stroller accessible. The operator's own pages say nothing about access, so describe your needs in the booking's special-requirements field.
Then the lines come off, and the first decision of the day is yours: which way to point the bow.
