Your First Waikiki Wave Starts at Duke Kahanamoku's Statue

One hour with only your own party: a short drill on the sand, then gentle Waikiki waves. The operator says its instructors are local Hawaii firefighters.

The listing says most participants manage to stand up and ride a wave by the end of this one-hour lesson. Each booking is a private group of one to four people, so only your own party is in the water with the instructor. On the booking calendar, start times run every hour from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, every day of the week.

The operator describes its teachers as local Hawaii firefighters who surf on their days off. Travelers repeat it in their reviews. One 2025 reviewer wrote that the guide works as a firefighter for a main job.

One booking covers one to four surfers aged 7 and up. A surfboard is the only item the listing includes, and getting to the beach is up to you.

Meet at the Statue, Then Drill on the Sand

The listing says your instructor meets you at the Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Statue, ready to start. The lesson does not stay there. A traveler wrote in August 2026 that the group met at the statue, then moved next to the lifeguard stand and used it as a reference point once in the water. Another wrote that the meetup at the statue feels strange, but you are in the right place.

The first stretch happens on the sand. The listing says the instructor covers paddling, balance and the pop-up there, along with safety tips and the etiquette of sharing waves. One reviewer put that part at about fifteen minutes.

Photos Are Sold Separately on the Beach

The listing includes surfboards and nothing else. Several 2026 reviews describe a photographer covering the lesson and photos offered for a charge, which travelers either bought at the end or turned down. The price of the photos is not published on the listing, so ask about it before you agree.

Private transportation is excluded. The listing notes that public transportation options are available nearby.

The Price per Person Drops as the Group Grows

Pricing is per person and depends on how many people share the booking. As of October 27, 2026, the booking page quoted a November weekday at USD 109 for one adult, USD 99 each for two adults, and USD 89 each for four adults. Children aged 7 to 11 and teenagers aged 12 to 17 have their own price bands.

The booking form asks for each surfer's name, date of birth, height and weight, with a field for special requirements. Cancel at least 24 hours before your start time for a full refund. Inside 24 hours, nothing is refunded.

Answer the Confirmation Text

In a public reply to a July 2026 review, the operator wrote that it sends a confirmation text before each lesson because conditions, instructor assignments, and meeting logistics can change. That reviewer had not replied the night before and waited 45 minutes at the beach. The operator apologized, said it had made an incorrect assumption when no reply came, and said it ran the lesson once it realized the traveler was still there. It added that it has since reviewed its communication procedures. Reply to that text as soon as it arrives.

The listing says the lesson is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, for pregnant travelers, or for anyone with poor cardiovascular health. It does not mention swimming ability.

To find the start, walk to the Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Statue on Kalākaua Avenue in Waikiki. The listing says the lesson ends there too. Between waves, the listing mentions time to float on the board with views of Diamond Head and the shoreline.
