Yang Chow Restaurant

4.5 (1,666)restaurant

A Chinatown staple since 1977, started by five brothers and known for its signature slippery shrimp.

Description

Set beneath the Bing Wong Hotel, the space was originally a diner before the Yun family converted it and named the spot after their hometown. The founders drew on a family background spanning generations of cooks and restaurateurs. Growth accelerated in the early 1980s when an LA Times article on its slippery shrimp prompted patrons to arrive with clippings in hand, bringing the room into wider limelight and launching years of expansion.
