Yamashiro Hollywood
restaurant
Perched above Hollywood, this 1914 hilltop palace replica pairs Japanese-inspired dining with sweeping skyline views.
Description

Translating to "Mountain Palace" in Japanese, Yamashiro was conceived in 1911 by the Bernheimer brothers to house their collection of Asian treasures. Hundreds of craftsmen were brought over to build the estate as a replica of a palace in the mountains near Kyoto, complete with lush gardens 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard. During the Golden Age of Hollywood, the setting operated as the private Club of the Four Hundred, drawing figures like Marilyn Monroe and Howard Hughes for fine dining and social events.
