Woodland Garden
4.9 (7)park
Stone-framed ponds, a seasonal stream, and over 70 Japanese maple cultivars shape this quiet, layered landscape.
Description

Set just off Azalea Way, the garden was originally designed in 1938. Its collection includes historical trees imported from Japanese nurseryman Koichiro Wada in 1940 and 1941, featuring cultivars such as ‘Shishigashira’ and ‘Seiryu’. Beyond autumn foliage like sourwood and witch alder, the wooded valley shifts throughout the year: spring brings blooming Kousa dogwood, summer carries months of flowering oakleaf hydrangeas and berry-laden hawthorn, and winter brings swollen claret willow buds and fragrant witch hazel blossoms.
