Wine Country from the Sidecar, Last Stop Wolff Vineyards

Four hours of San Luis Obispo wine country from the passenger seat of a motorcycle sidecar, with somebody else driving between three tasting rooms.

Ride a sidecar to Wolff Vineyards.

The sidecar is the point. You sit low and open, at vine height, with the valley going past at a speed that lets you actually look at it. Somebody else has the handlebars, which is the part that matters on a day built around tasting rooms.

Third Wheel Tours runs this one out of Wolff Vineyards on Orcutt Road. The tour only runs Thursday through Sunday. Four hours, three wineries, and you finish back where you parked.

The listing below is the one to book from. What follows is what those four hours actually hold.

First the Waiver, Then the Vines

Arrive ten minutes early. The operator holds winery reservations against your start time and asks for that cushion so they stay on schedule. Park in the designated guest lot; your driver meets you at the front entrance.

Ten minutes go to paperwork and briefing. You sign a waiver, and the guide walks through riding guidelines and safety gear before anyone sets off. The schedule then hands the ride itself three hours and forty-five minutes.

What fills them is a guide talking through the region's history and terroir between stops, and three tasting rooms where somebody walks you through what each one is doing differently. One booking takes up to four travelers, and the tour is private, so the people around you are the people you arrived with.

Wolff Closes It Out

The tour starts and ends at Wolff Vineyards, 6238 Orcutt Road, and Wolff is also where the final tasting happens. The vineyard has been farmed since 1976 and the tasting room opened in 1999. It runs to 125 acres, certified sustainable, and the list covers Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Riesling and Teroldego.

The tasting room is open daily from 11am to 5pm. Wolff publishes its own tasting fee at twenty dollars a person for a flight of six, refundable against the purchase of two bottles.

The other two wineries on the route are not named in the listing.

The Tasting Fees Sit Outside the Ticket

This is the number that moves. Tasting fees are not included, and the listing puts them at twenty to thirty-five dollars per person at each winery. Across three wineries that is roughly sixty to a hundred and five dollars a head on top of the seat. Gratuities are not included either.

The ticket itself moves with the day. A Thursday departure is priced at 169 dollars; Friday through Sunday it is 189. Both are per person, in US dollars, and the price does not drop as the group grows.

Wolff's own published fee sits at the bottom of that range. The other two rooms are unnamed, so the top of the range is the safer number to budget against.

Who Can Ride, and How Late You Can Book

This is a 21-and-over tour, which follows from the tastings. Everyone on the booking has to clear that bar.

The listing names three groups it does not recommend the ride for:

  • travelers with spinal injuries
  • travelers with poor cardiovascular health
  • pregnant travelers

Take those at face value; a sidecar sits low and open to the road. Alongside them the listing rates the route suitable for all physical fitness levels, and service animals are allowed.

Booking closes twelve hours before departure and confirmation is instant. Cancelling twenty-four hours or more ahead gets a full refund under the listing's policy. The listing also flags that the operator can call off a departure for bad weather.

📍 Everything starts and finishes at 6238 Orcutt Road, San Luis Obispo. Park in the designated guest lot and your driver will come out to the front entrance.

Wolff's tasting room stays open until 5pm, and you are already standing in it when the four hours are up. If the last flight went well, the two bottles that would refund your tasting fee are on the counter in front of you.
