Description

The park honors Williamson County servicemen across conflicts from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan, with bricks inscribed with each soldier’s name and conflict. The focal tribute is the largest brick, dedicated to George Jordan, the only person from the county to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Born into slavery, Jordan enlisted after the Civil War and served as a Buffalo Soldier in New Mexico during the Indian Wars, where he held an exposed position with nineteen men to turn back a larger force and prevent his unit from being surrounded.
