Wildlife at Hains Point
3.0 (2)park
Flanked by two waterways, this D.C. peninsula shelters over 250 bird species alongside red foxes and native reptiles.
Description

Unlike many areas of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, Hains Point supports varied shrub and herbaceous habitats that supply food, cover, and corridors within the urban ecosystem. This makes the peninsula the most species rich area at the National Mall and Memorial Parks. Groundhogs, raccoons, and occasional coyotes share the grounds, joined by reptiles such as five-lined skinks, snapping turtles, Eastern rat snakes, and Eastern copperheads.
