Where Comic-Con Fills A Sail-Topped Bayfront Hall
Expos, conventions, and Comic-Con fill this bayfront hall on San Diego's downtown Embarcadero, under a sail-like rooftop.

The San Diego Convention Center is the waterfront event hall that anchors the downtown Embarcadero, a 2.6-million-square-foot complex that opened in 1989 along San Diego Bay. Its curved rooftop, the Sails Pavilion, reads like a row of billowing sails when you approach from Harbor Drive, and the building has become the visual shorthand for the bay's convention district.
Each July the halls fill for Comic-Con International, when well over one hundred thousand attendees pour across the skybridges and out onto the terraces facing the marina. The rest of the year brings trade shows, esports finals, and expos that spill toward the adjacent Embarcadero Marina Park.
Outside show hours the promenade stays open to walkers, with views across the water to Coronado and the harbor traffic below. The center sits steps from Petco Park and the Gaslamp Quarter, an easy walk that ties the bayfront to the rest of downtown.
