Where A Morton Salt Plant Became A Concert Hall
Concerts fill a former Morton Salt plant on the Chicago River, with an outdoor yard in summer and a warm indoor hall.
🎪 From salt to sound
The Salt Shed is a music venue on North Elston Avenue built inside the former Morton Salt packaging plant along the Chicago River. The complex keeps the industrial shell and the Morton umbrella-girl sign, now wrapped around concert spaces instead of salt lines.
Two stages carry the calendar. The outdoor Fairgrounds hosts large summer shows on the riverfront, while the indoor hall, known as The Shed, runs concerts through the colder months with a standing floor and upper tiers. Touring rock, hip-hop, and electronic acts rotate through both rooms.
The site sits along the North Branch of the Chicago River near Goose Island, a short ride from downtown, with lots and rideshare drop-offs feeding the gates on show nights.
