🏀 The West Side arena
The United Center is the indoor arena on West Madison Street that hosts the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks, along with the major touring concerts to reach the city. It opened in 1994 on the Near West Side and seats around twenty thousand for basketball.
At the east entrance a bronze statue of Michael Jordan mid-leap, titled The Spirit, honors his Bulls tenure across the 1980s and 1990s. The atrium around it holds a team store and rows of championship banners, and fans line up for photos beneath the leaping figure before games and shows.
The arena sits west of the Loop off Madison Street, with lots ringing the building and CTA bus routes running past the gates. Six Bulls titles and a deep Blackhawks history keep the calendar full from fall through spring.
