Where a Glass-Vaulted Concert Hall Anchors Philadelphia's Broad Street

A curved glass roof arcs over a cello-shaped concert hall on Broad Street, staging jazz, comedy, and touring Broadway.

🎻 Under the glass vault

The Kimmel Center is Philadelphia's largest performing arts campus, filling a full block of Broad Street under a curved glass barrel vault that rises above the sidewalk. Inside, Marian Anderson Hall takes the shape of a cello, its mahogany-clad tiers wrapped around the stage for orchestral programs known for their sound.

The complex holds several rooms at once, from the Perelman Theater to the SEI Innovation Studio, and its calendar runs from jazz and comedy to touring Broadway. Between shows, the glass-roofed Commonwealth Plaza links the halls and stays open to the public as a walk-through concourse dotted with art installations.

The address sits at the center of the Avenue of the Arts, steps from the Academy of Music and other Broad Street stages. Crowds can press together between levels and food stations on busy nights, and the plaza fills before curtain.
