Where A 95-Bell Carillon Rings Below The Capitol
Walk a 200-foot granite map of Tennessee, pass a black WWII memorial globe, and look up to the State Capitol.
🌐 The globe and the map
Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park is a 19-acre downtown green space that opened in 1996 for Tennessee's 200th birthday, laid out as an open-air history lesson below the State Capitol. A 200-foot granite map of Tennessee stretches across the plaza, marked with rivers and county lines you can cross on foot.
At the north end, a 95-bell carillon marks the hours, one bell for each Tennessee county. The World War II Memorial centers on a black granite globe tilted to show the planet as it sat on December 7, 1941, its continents etched in silver.
The great lawn opens a clean sightline up Capitol Hill, and the Nashville Farmers' Market sits at the northern edge for coffee before the walk. Admission is free, with parking along James Robertson Parkway.
