Spot Wild Alligators for Just 7 Dollars Near Houston
Walk the 40 Acre Lake trail to the observation tower, spot wild alligators from a safe distance, and explore separate park trails.
🐊 Where the Alligators Bask
Start along the 40 Acre Lake Trail, where a 1.2 mile walk circles wetland habitats and leads to the wildlife observation tower overlooking marshes and lakes. Wild alligators are often spotted basking along the banks, though sightings are never guaranteed. Park rules require keeping at least 30 feet from alligators, with no feeding and no approaching for photos.
Across the park near the nature center, Creekfield Lake offers a separate, fully paved 0.5 mile accessible trail with interpretive panels, while the 1.7 mile Elm Lake Loop provides another distinct wildlife loop. Gates open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 21901 FM 762 in Needville. Day entry is 7 dollars for visitors 13 and older, and free for ages 12 and under. The park closes Nov. 17 to 19 and Dec. 15 to 17 for permitted hunts; check with the park in advance for any day-before entry restrictions. Reserve day passes online before heading out.
