Description

An archaeological and historical overview by the National Park Service details the rise and fall of the waterway. Groundbreaking began in 1810 to facilitate boat transport and downtown development, but the project soon struggled with siltation and sanitation issues. Rather than a thriving commercial conduit, it ended up functioning as an open sewer before being filled in and transformed into the B Street Sewer.
