Step inside and the winter stops mattering: the Palm House runs 65 feet high over more than 70 palms, the Fern Room wraps a waterfall and a prehistoric Illinois lagoon in ferns and cycads older than the building, and the Aroid House holds Dale Chihuly's Persian Pool, sixteen glass lilies floating among koi. Desert House, Sugar From the Sun and the Show House take minutes each. Chicago residents enter free and other adults pay $10 (seniors, students and ages 7 to 17 $5). Book a timed slot, arrive within 30 minutes of it, and leave coats on the unattended racks by the Palm House door.
