Wallach Fountain
4.7 (14)attraction
A polished marble memorial topped by a bronze fawn, crafted with drinking basins for people, dogs, and birds.
Description

The memorial was funded by David Wallach, a South Side photographic supply merchant who left money to several Chicago charities upon his death in 1894. Commissioned in the 1930s, the piece was a collaboration between sculptors Frederick C. Hibbard and Elisabeth Haseltine Hibbard: Frederick crafted the marble structure, while Elisabeth modeled the bronze fawn. Although built with funds from a Chicago horse lover, the 1939 monument omitted a horse trough, directing water instead into drinking fountains for adults and children alongside a dedicated pool for birds and dogs.
