Walk Woodland Trails, Garden Paths, and Watch Planes

Woods Gardens and Flight Views

La Plaza's Quiet Corner

East Village community garden paths connect labeled plant collections, benches, and gazebos of different sizes. A stone amphitheater and turtle pond add places to pause. Children can use the sandbox stocked with toys. Leashed dogs can join walks through the grounds. A shared BBQ area includes a grill, sink, and utensils for neighborhood meals. From Monday through Saturday, opening begins at 1:42 PM. Wednesday closes at 8:20 PM, while Sunday is open 24 hours.

Woodland Routes and Fairway Views

La Tourette Park occupies a rugged, unmanicured setting on Staten Island. Paved stone paths provide one route, while foot and bike trails run through the woods. Biking is allowed, and a dedicated nature center offers a quiet forest retreat. A 19th-century mansion and golf course extend the grounds beyond the paths. Visitors can choose a short walk or a longer outing. The park is open daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM the next day.

Arrival Views Above Flushing

At 24-34 81st St in Queens, this grassy park puts incoming planes at close range as they follow the line of the land. Visitors settle onto the grass for picnics or barbecues, with incoming flights providing the visual focus. The grounds remain open 24 hours every day, making the site workable for early or late plane watching. Pack what you need for a stay, with no bathrooms on site.
