Walk LA's Iconic Sixth Street Bridge, Then Grab Crispy Shrimp Tacos
Los Angeles replaced its 1932 river crossing with ten steel arches, a wide sidewalk on each side and a protected bike lane, and the deck now carries walkers and cyclists over the river channel. This route pairs that structure with a Boyle Heights shrimp taco truck parked two miles from where the deck comes down.

🌉 Ten Arches Over the River
The 2022 viaduct replaced a 1932 river crossing with ten sets of steel arches, sidewalks eight to fourteen feet wide on each side, and a protected bike lane along both edges. Start on the Arts District side and walk east, with the river channel opening below. The five stairways down to the ground stay fenced off until the park underneath opens in early 2027, so get on and off by the open ramps at either end of the deck and stay out of the construction area.

Where the deck comes down in Boyle Heights, 3040 East Olympic Boulevard is still about two miles of surface streets away, five to ten minutes in the car and not a walk. Order the taco dorado de camaron, a corn tortilla wrapped around shrimp and fried until the shell crackles, then add a Poseidon tostada if you have room. Bring cash, since this is a roadside truck rather than a card counter. Eat at the curb and drive back over the bridge before the truck shuts at five thirty.

Two hours covers both stops. Park near Mateo Street on the Arts District side, take the west ramp up, walk the deck east into Boyle Heights, then drive the two miles to the truck with time to eat before five thirty. Cross the bridge before you eat, since afternoon light lands on the arches from the river side and the truck closes early. Rain soaks the deck, which has no shelter. Keep this one to daylight, when the arches read clearly against the sky.
