Walk Green-Wood After Dark and Step Into Its Locked Catacombs

Brooklyn's grand old cemetery opens after dark on select evenings, and the walk ends inside catacombs most visitors never see.

See Green-Wood after hours.

🕯️ After Hours at Green-Wood

🪦 Why This Walk Is Different

Long before Central Park opened, New Yorkers came to Green-Wood for family outings and carriage rides, and in the 1860s only Niagara Falls drew more tourists. It is also where Leonard Bernstein and Jean-Michel Basquiat are buried. After Hours walks the grounds after dark, trading in legends and local history, and ends somewhere daytime visitors never go: the Catacombs, normally locked to the public.

🎟️ Picking a Time Slot

Friday, October 16, has starts at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 PM. On Saturday, October 17, the 6:00 and 6:30 PM starts are sold out, which leaves the 5:00 and 5:30 PM walks. Sunday, October 25, has four starts between 5:00 and 6:30 PM, and November adds Saturday evenings. Each walk runs about two hours. Tickets are $30, or $24 for members, plus fees, final sale with no date swaps.

🔦 What to Bring

Bring a flashlight; the walk happens in the dark and the cemetery strongly recommends one. The route is hilly and grassy with nowhere to sit, is not ADA accessible and is not recommended for kids under 10, and outside a medical emergency it may be hard to leave quickly. Skip the costume, as masks and costumes mean no entry. Weather calls come about three hours before start by Eventbrite email. Check in by name at the Gothic Arch, Fifth Avenue and 25th Street.
