Volunteer Supported Kayaking At Pier 26

Paddle the Hudson with supplied life jackets, gear, and lockers before heading into the protected embayment.

Paddle the Hudson for free.

🦺 Swim Before Launch

Slip into a sit on top kayak at Pier 26 and point toward the protected Hudson River embayment north of the launch. The Downtown Boathouse keeps the outing free, with life jackets, necessary gear, and lockers supplied on site. Bring your own towel, and keep an eye on the wind, rough waves can roll through the embayment.

The key rule is that all participants need to know how to swim, while paddlers age 12 or younger share a double kayak with an adult. Teenagers from 13 to 18 can head out on their own. Sign up lines can close early when demand is high, arrive with a little breathing room.

Through October 4, Saturday and Sunday sessions run from 10 AM to half past four PM. The summer Tuesday and Thursday window runs from half past five PM to quarter past seven PM, and holidays vary. The setup stays organized with volunteer support throughout.
