Description

First opened on Sacramento Street in 1912 as the Elite Theater—and briefly known as the Rex before taking its current name in 1939—the venue has spent over a century dedicated to foreign and independent film. Preserved in 2007 when the San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation purchased the building, it continues to run an eclectic mix of first-run and classic cinema while serving as the annual home of the Mostly British Film Festival.
