Venice Canal Historic District
4.6 (13,163)attraction
A quiet network of 1905 canals crossed by arched footbridges, tucked between vintage bungalows and modern homes.
Description

Developer Abbot Kinney planned the neighborhood as part of his 1905 “Venice of America” resort, modeling it after the Italian city. Today, the surviving network comprises six residential canals—Carroll, Linnie, Howland, Sherman, Eastern, and Grand—recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. Quiet walking paths trace the water past Mediterranean Revival estates and resident water birds, providing a calm spot for photos and wandering away from the bustling boardwalk.
