Vargas Plateau Regional Park
4.7 (1,004)park
Perched high above Fremont, this quiet ridgetop park pairs sweeping Bay views with soaring raptors and open trails.
Description

Rising 1,000 feet above the streets below, the 1,249-acre reserve looks out over Niles Canyon, Union City, and Newark from its perch in the Fremont Hills. Up on the plateau, the terrain shifts into a pastoral mix of open grasslands, ponds, and wooded canyons that shelter bobcats, deer, frogs, and golden eagles. Along the crest, hikers can trace a segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail set right on the urban/wildland threshold.
