Description

Run through the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies, this ethnobotanical space serves as an interdisciplinary teaching resource for university classes, school groups, and the wider community.

The plantings pair staple foods and culinary herbs like maize, cassava, epazote, and amaranth with medicinal varieties frequently regarded as southeastern ornamentals, including beautyberries, cacti, sages, and four-o-clocks. Rather than a static display, the collection anchors discussions touching on Indigenous knowledge systems, globalization, diet, biodiversity, and climate change.
