USS Dolphin
4.6 (81)museum
Step aboard the Cold War research sub that once dove over 3,000 feet, now preserved on the San Diego waterfront.
Description

Commissioned in 1968, the Navy research vessel earned its record as the deepest-diving operational diesel-electric submarine. Over decades of undersea trials, it helped develop emerging technologies, including sonar systems, submarine-to-aircraft communication, and non-acoustic anti-submarine warfare. Now part of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, the vessel allows visitors to explore its compact interior compartments to see firsthand how crews operated during Cold War-era deployments.
