Description

Installed along LACMA’s Wilshire Boulevard entrance in 2008, artist Chris Burden’s work repurposes fixtures that once lit Southern California. The columns are coated in a uniform neutral gray to draw out their varied decorative castings, aligned so the layout creates shifting visual arrays depending on the vantage point. Powered by solar energy, the installation switches on nightly at dusk and remains lit until 10 pm.
