Universal Express Skips One Line Per Ride, Not Hollywood Drift

A full day at the movie-studio park, with one shortcut past each ride queue and a decision about when to spend it.

Plan your Universal Express day ride by ride.

Universal Studios Hollywood sells this as one all-day ticket with a second lane attached. Admission runs from opening to close. The express half works once per ride, per day, through a separate entrance with a shorter posted wait. Spend it on a ride at ten in the morning and it is gone for that ride, even when the same queue is running two hours by mid-afternoon. Seated shows work the same way, with one express entry each. Shows without seating sit outside it, along with food and retail counters.

One booking covers up to five travelers and locks to the calendar date chosen at checkout. The listing carries a single option, with no date changes after that. The park releases only limited quantities of express tickets each day and points buyers online ahead of arrival.

One Entry Per Ride, and the Hour You Spend It

The ticket terms are specific: one-time express access to each ride, attraction and seated show, through a separate line with a shorter wait. Travelers who have worked out the rhythm describe the same routine. Ride the headline attractions at opening, while standby queues are still short. Hold the express entry for the middle of the day, when posted waits climb. Reviewers describe walking past posted waits of 110, 150 and 180 minutes and reaching the same ride inside ten. Others describe the opposite surprise, returning to a favorite ride for a second run and finding the lane closed to them at the scanner.

Where the Queues Actually Build

Two themed lands absorb most of the waiting. The Wizarding World holds Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey inside the castle, with Flight of the Hippogriff running outside it. Super Nintendo World runs Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge alongside Toadstool Cafe. The Studio Tour takes about an hour on its own, a tram route across thirteen city blocks of standing sets with King Kong 360-3D built into it. Express opens a separate entrance at each of these, once each, and the tour counts as one of them. The park's calendar currently lists Jurassic World - The Ride out of service, scheduled back on November 21, 2026, and the park notes that most ride vehicles will not take a standard wheelchair or powered device, leaving riders to transfer across to board.

Those lands sit on two levels. The park runs down a hillside in an Upper Lot and a Lower Lot joined by a long bank of escalators, with Jurassic World and Transformers below and WaterWorld above. Universal's accessibility page lists a shuttle for guests who cannot manage those escalators between the two lots, and says its queue accommodations are intended to give equal access to the attractions and are not a way past other guests in line. Going down once and coming back up once leaves more of the day for the rides; crossing between the halves repeatedly spends it on the hill.

The Newest Coaster Sits Outside the Ticket

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift opened on September 16, 2026, the park's first high-speed outdoor coaster, with ride vehicles that rotate through a full turn at speeds up to 72 miles per hour. The park's own ticket questions answer this one directly: express access does not include that coaster. Anyone arriving for it joins the standby queue. The ticket will not combine with Halloween Horror Nights or any other separately ticketed event either, so an evening like that is a second purchase.

What the Date Does to the Price

The booking calendar prices by date. Across the ten months loaded at the start of October 2026, the same ticket carried fifteen different prices, with the top rate running about four fifths above the floor, and every one of those 307 days was open to book. The floor landed almost entirely on Tuesdays through Thursdays; no Saturday in the window reached it, and the stretch from December 19 to January 2 sat flat at the top. Travelers describing quiet midweek visits report standby waits of ten to fifteen minutes, on the same midweek dates the calendar prices lowest.

Exchange happens at the front gate turnstile, where the booking becomes the express ticket, and every visitor passes through metal detection before going in, with bags subject to x-ray or further inspection. The park admits empty refillable bottles, bottled water up to two liters, small snacks, baby food and formula, food needed for medical or dietary reasons, and soft-sided coolers no larger than 8.5 by 6 by 6 inches; hard-sided coolers, suitcases and anything on wheels stay outside. Parking is charged separately and priced by tier: on ordinary dates general parking runs USD 40 before 5pm and USD 10 after, preferred from USD 60 before 5pm and from USD 20 after, front gate from USD 70; on Halloween Horror Nights and Fan Fest dates the daytime rates hold all day, and the park notes those rates change without notice. Lockers and rentals carry their own prices: USD 10 and USD 15 for the small and large lockers at the front of the park, free small lockers while you ride, larger ones at USD 5 to start and USD 5 for each additional hour to a daily cap of USD 20, wheelchairs at USD 25 a day, electric convenience vehicles at USD 75, and strollers at USD 25 a day single and USD 35 double. The booking refunds in full up to 24 hours ahead; inside that window the date is fixed. The park runs 365 days a year and posts its hours about four weeks ahead, which is the point the day stops being a guess.
