Under the Brooklyn Bridge on a Boat That Seats Six

A small sailboat leaves a gate in Brooklyn Bridge Park, motors under the bridge, and works the harbor for about two hours.

Cruise under the Brooklyn Bridge on a six-seat boat.

Brooklyn Bridge Park gives you six piers of waterfront and keeps the water itself at arm's length. The promenade ends at a railing. Boats go by.

A gate just north of Pier 5 is the exception. It opens onto the docks of the marina, where a sailboat carrying six passengers at a time works the harbor for two to two and a half hours. The operator puts it plainly in its own listing: no crowds with groups of six maximum.

Departures are guided in English and confirm instantly. The trip holds 4.95 from 187 reviews. Booking closes two hours before the scheduled departure time.

What the Boat Passes

The boat motors under the Brooklyn Bridge, then sails across toward One World Trade Center. From there the route runs past Ellis Island and Governors Island before turning back. At the Statue of Liberty the captain gets as close as the law allows and stops so people can shoot from the deck.

Every point on the route is seen from the water, and none of them involve going ashore. Scheduled time is variable, between 120 and 150 minutes.

Six Seats and a Short Guest List

Six is the cap for the entire departure. Your booking does not hold the other five seats, and two parties of three will fill the boat.

The operator rates the trip for all physical fitness levels. Infants ride on an adult's lap, and prams or strollers are allowed. Service animals are permitted. Tickets are issued one per booking, mobile or paper.

Bring Your Own, With One Rule

Bottled water is included. Beyond that the operator invites you to pack: guests are welcome to bring any food or drink aboard.

The single restriction is red wine, or anything else that stains or makes a mess. Pack accordingly.

Finding the Gate

The meeting point is a gate inside the park, outside the marina itself. You meet at the gate entrance to Brooklyn Bridge Marina, in Brooklyn Bridge Park just north of Pier 5. The operator places it between the soccer fields and the marina, near the playground. The captain comes out to meet everyone there.

Public transportation runs nearby. Leave yourself time to find the gate.

Confirmation is instant, and booking closes two hours before the scheduled departure. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund. Weather or a short passenger list can scrub a departure, and the operator holds that call.

Arrive with time to find the gate. After that it is a couple of hours on the harbor with at most five other people aboard, and a skyline that keeps rearranging itself.
